Jazz at the Library: May 2022

JazzFresno, the Fresno County Public Library, KFSR 90.7 FM, and the Woodward Park Friends of the Library will host a FREE, in person and open to the public Jazz at the Library presentation on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. at the Woodward Park Regional County Library located at 944 E. Perrin Ave. (Champlain & Perrin), Fresno, CA 93720.  

Presented by Les Nunes, retired music educator, jazz specialist, and professional trombonist.
Les Nunes will present “The History of the Jazz Trombone”. It will be a journey from the beginnings of jazz through the different eras and styles of standout trombonists. Kid Ory, Jack Teagarden, Miff Mole, Trummy Young, Al Grey, Tommy Dorsey, Curtis Fuller, Carl Fontana, Raul DeSouza and others will come alive through performed transcriptions by Les Nunes and Barbara Shinaver. The famous Trombone duo of Jay and Kai will be demonstrated, and a quartet of trombone players will show off that famous trombone sound of the Stan Kenton trombone section.The evening will also feature Barb Shinaver on trombone, a quartet of trombone players, Ed Hull on tuba and bass, Robert Bennett on banjo, Rick Helzer on piano and Gary Newmark on drums. We invite you to slide on down to the Woodward Park Library where you will have an awesome time!
